The Age Gap Calculator

Motivation & Purpose

A friend's grandparents had an age gap of 8 years and we heard the rule of thumb half your age + 7 years as an acceptable range to date within. They would have been in their 70s now and we wanted to see what that rule looked like over the course of their relationship of 3 decades (when they first started dating, acceptable age range at that time, range later in life, etc...). So, I developed this calculator and dashboard of insightful metrics and a plot graph to more easily and precisely interpret the rule. It was a fun exploration of data and design challenge as a personal project. Now you can check how folks you know stack up in age-gap relationships using this rule of thumb tool.
